In 1988 Allan Pound was an insurance broker at Lloyd’s of London and Ivan Gates was a freight forwarding agent in Felixstowe. Based on a long-standing business friendship they decided to start a new business together, the Pound Gates Group, based in Ipswich in the East of England.
The Group included Pound Gates Vehicle Management Services, a business focused on the finished vehicle logistics sector. Starting with just one automotive client, Pound Gates Vehicle Management Services went on to become what is today; the European leader in the provision of risk management, claims and damage reduction solutions to the finished vehicle logistics sector.
The Group also includes an insurance broking business with a specialism in marine and transit risks, and engineering company Contior Automotive Assessors.
In 2002 Kevin Collins took over Pound Gates and has led the business through a period of significant growth based on a strong focus on its specialisms. In 2010 the Group de-merged creating independence for each business supporting further focus and investment in their activity and client sectors.
In February 2011 Pound Gates Vehicle Management Services changed its trading name to Sevatas. The name Sevatas derives from the Latin words sentio (to judge) and veritas (truth).
The fundamental principles of the business remain unchanged. We are focused on delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients based on our expertise. This drive is supported by attracting and developing highly competent people with the attitude to provide a high quality of client service with honesty and integrity.
